Thank You Cranial Technologies

Blake is finished with his DOC band helmet. Since my blog got deleted and I had a blog in there about his DOC band, I'm writing this so we can remember. Blake was diagnosed with having plagiocephaly. It literally means "oblique head". He was also diagnosed with Congenital Muscular Torticollis that was causing his head to tilt and bend to one side. Either during his time in the womb or during birth his right side neck muscles were tight. When he would sleep at night his head was held in one position because he could not move his neck. He was also 5 weeks premature which caused his cranium to be extra soft. His scull was literally shifting. It was causing the symmetry of his face to be out of line. His right ear was moving closer to his head than his left ear. Here is a picture of what this looks like. His head was not this severe, but it could have been it we did not get treatment. What the helmet did was hold in one side of his skull so the other side could grow. He had to wear the helmet for 6 weeks and once a week we would go into their office and they would take a layer of foam of of the helmet from the side they want the skull to grow. We have also had to do physical therpy for his neck. He is now able to move his neck in any direction. It's about 1 in every 40 babies that develop flattening. We are so thankful for Cranial Technologies and their technology to correct his head.

Blake + solid food = total mess!!

Blake turned 5 months old yesterday. I've decided to try and give him some rice cereal today. Mainly because I was tired of feeding him all the time. I hope this will let him sleep longer at night and go a little longer between feedings during the day. I have dreaded this day for a couple of reasons, one, because this means he's not an infant anymore (my baby's all grown up :o() and second, because it took Camie forever to get the concept of solid food and it made such a mess all the time. Well, he loved it. He just sort of slurped it off the spoon, but he got down more than I thought he would. When I would dip the spoon in the bowl to get some more he would cry until the spoon was back in his mouth. You would think this boy was starving. Which obviously isn't the case as you can see by the endless little baby rolls. So cute! Here he is all finished with a full belly and his binky! All relaxed.
